Fire Extinguisher Installation

The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999

Date: 8th JULY 2009
Client: All clients where fire extinguishers are installed.
Location: At the premises of clients throughout the United Kingdom.
Specific Activity: The assessment looks at potential risks to 
employees and others relating to the installation of Portable Fire 
Extinguishers.
Assessment Review: In 3 years or in the event of a change in the 
nature of the task.

Work is undertaken by FETA/BAFE trained Technicians. Health and safety information is available at the Derby HQ

Work is supervised and audited. An Engineer’s File and Health and Safety Manual is carried in each vehicle

All work is undertaken in accordance with BS 5306-8-2009 Selection and installation of portable fire extinguishers - Code of practice, and the health and safety arrangements. Tests for electrical cables and pipes made prior to drilling. Areas left clean and tidy.

Hearing protection is worn when drilling.

Travelling/access issues

All Technicians are qualified drivers using properly maintained vehicles. A hi-vis vest and thermal jacket is carried and a First Aid kit. On arrival Technicians report / sign in and receive any local safety briefing.

Contact with Asbestos or Chemicals

Employees -
Low Risk

The agreed location is assessed for the presence of asbestos. Clients may be asked for guidance. Suspicious walls are not disturbed and a stand may be used. Disturbance of any asbestos is not permitted. Dust masks and goggles are available when using chemicals.

Manual handling - use of poor techniques

Employees -
Low Risk

Technicians are trained in safe handling techniques. Safety footwear and workwear is worn.

 

Summary of Risk Assessment
No further action is required as a result of the findings of this risk assessment.
